About the test
What this test measures
This test measures traits linked to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in adults: how you experience social interaction, communication, routine, interests, sensory input and detail, and how hard you work to fit in.
The questions follow the areas clinicians assess (the DSM-5 criteria). Your result shows your profile in each one and helps you decide whether an assessment is worth pursuing.
This test is not a diagnosis. Only a health professional (a psychiatrist, neurologist or psychologist experienced with autism in adults) can diagnose ASD.
What you'll discover
- Your index from 0 to 100 and what it means
- Your score in each area, explained in plain language
- The statements you related to the most
- Your strengths and practical tips for everyday life
- Next steps, if you want to look into a professional evaluation
The 7 areas the test looks at
Social interaction
How you experience conversations, groups and friendships, and how much energy socializing takes.
Communication
How you read what isn't said: facial expressions, tone of voice, sarcasm, hints and eye contact.
Routine and predictability
How much you need predictability, and how you react to change and the unexpected.
Intense interests
How deeply and intensely you dive into the things you love.
Sensory sensitivity
How you react to sounds, lights, smells, textures and your own body's signals.
Detail and patterns
Your tendency to notice details, patterns and things out of place.
Social camouflaging
The effort to seem like everyone else: rehearsing conversations, copying others, hiding discomfort. Not part of the index.
How to answer
- Think about how you are most of the time, and have always been, not just over the last few days.
- There are no right or wrong answers. Be honest, even when the answer isn't the one you'd like to give.
- Read each statement carefully: some of them say the opposite of others on purpose.
Did you know?
- About 1 in 100 children worldwide is on the autism spectrum, according to the World Health Organization, and autism stays with a person into adulthood.
- Many adults only find out they're autistic in their 30s or 40s, sometimes when their child is diagnosed, after a lifetime of feeling different without knowing why.
- Women tend to be diagnosed later than men, largely because they camouflage their traits more.
The statements were written for this test and organized by the areas of the DSM-5 criteria for ASD. Some are reversed and one checks your attention, to prevent answering on autopilot. The index ranges are a screening reference and are reviewed as more people take the test.
